Slicer Optimization

FreeDi works out of the box with any slicer without special configuration.
This section is optional, but recommended if you want to get the most out of your setup.

What Slicer Configuration Adds

Configuring your slicer for FreeDi enables the following improvements:

Feature Details
Higher-quality thumbnails Transmits richer preview images to FreeDi's LCD screen instead of the basic low-resolution default
Smarter preheat sequences Chamber air circulation runs during bed heating, cutting total preheating time by 2–5 minutes
Consistent Z-offset Mesh bed leveling runs at the right point in the start sequence, ensuring a reliable first layer every time
FreeDi integration Enables display status updates and model-specific optimizations built into FreeDi

Tip

Configuring your slicer matters most when printing with heated chamber materials (ABS, ASA, Nylon), where the optimized heating sequence makes a noticeable time and quality difference.

Supported Slicers

All slicers that output standard G-code are compatible with FreeDi. Setup guides are available for:

  • [OrcaSlicer] — Recommended. Modern Klipper-focused fork with fast feature integration.

  • [QIDISlicer] — QIDI's slicer, based on PrusaSlicer.

Other available slicers:

  • [PrusaSlicer] — Stable, popular, and well-documented.

  • [SuperSlicer] — PrusaSlicer fork with additional fine-tuning options.

  • [QIDIStudio] — QIDI's OrcaSlicer-based slicer. Due to recurring bugs and slow fixes, it is not recommended ❌.
